Home Insurance Calculator

Find the right homeowners coverage limits to best protect your home

Use our homeowners insurance calculator to quickly estimate your coverage limits, including dwelling coverage, personal property coverage, and personal liability coverage.

Answer a few questions about your belongings, as well as your net worth and deductible preferences, to calculate how much homeowners insurance you need. You'll also learn how standard homeowners coverages work.

Will the calculator show an insurance cost?

No, the calculator is meant to help you estimate coverages and limits, not price. The cost of homeowners insurance is based on much more than a policy's coverage limits and depends on factors like your location, type of home, and claims history. Start a homeowners insurance quote and get a customized price to protect you and your property.

Estimate the right level of homeowners coverage for you

  • How much would it cost to rebuild your home?

Why we ask: Dwelling coverage, or Coverage A, pays to repair or rebuild your home if it's damaged in a covered loss. Insurers will need to know the cost to rebuild your home so you'll have enough coverage in case your home is destroyed due to a covered peril.Opens in new tab

  • How much would it cost to replace your belongings?

Why we ask: Personal property coverage, or Coverage C, insures your belongings — meaning anything that isn't attached to your home. If you were to lose everything you own in a fire, for example, you want enough personal property coverage to replace your belongings.

  • What is your net worth?

Why we ask: Liability coverage, or Coverage E, provides financial protection if you or your household's residents are liable for bodily injury and/or property damage. You need enough coverage to account for all your assets in case you're sued because of injuries or damages at your home.

  • What do you prefer?

Why we ask: You have the option to choose the deductible on your homeowners policy. A higher deductible can bring down your home insurance premium, but that means a bigger out-of-pocket expense in the event of a claim. A lower deductible can increase your premium, but you'll pay less out of pocket in case of a claim.

How coverages influence your policy

Coverages A through E are typically included on all standard homeowners insurance policies, and the limits on each coverage help determine the price of your policy.

  • Dwelling coverage (Coverage A)
Protects your home's structure. Your limit is typically calculated by how much it would cost to replace your home today. Review your policy annually to ensure your dwelling coverage limit is aligned with an evolving market and rebuilding costs. For example, what initially could've been enough coverage to replace your house when you purchased your policy may need to be updated to reflect the current market.
  • Other structures coverage (Coverage B)
Covers structures on your property, such as a shed or guest house. Your limit for other structures coverage typically depends on your dwelling coverage limit.
  • Personal property coverage (Coverage C)

Covers your belongings such as clothing, furniture, and electronics. The higher your personal property limit, the more you pay on your policy to protect all of your belongings.

  • Loss of use coverage (Coverage D)

This may pay for additional living expenses while your home is being repaired due to a covered loss. The way your loss of use coverage limit is determined varies by insurer, but it may not affect your policy's cost as much as dwelling coverage and personal property coverage.

  • Personal liability coverage (Coverage E)

Can protect your assets if you're liable for injuries or damages. Common limits are $100,000, $300,000 or $500,000. Choosing a higher limit can increase your policy's rate. If you need more coverage, consider an umbrella insurance policy.
